Prayer is to know God and to have a relationship with Him. Prayer is so abused and misused by tradition and religious teaching.
Matt 6:5 "And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly,I say to you, they have their reward." That recognition or pad on the back that people give you, and they think you are so wonderful when you pray - that's your reward.
Jesus said that we should not be like hypocrites love to pray... Every religion on the earth prays, soving their conscious. All their millions of prayers are not connecting to God beause there is only one way to God the Father - through Jesus. Jesus said in John 14:6 : "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." If you are not praying in the Name of Jesus you are not connecting to the Father.
Jesus tells us what prayer is not. In Mark 7:13 : "making the Word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down".
Matt 6:6-7 : "when you pray, go into your room and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words."
Prayer should come from your heart, communicating from your heart to God, it's not a monolog - you should also listen and let God minister unto you. People think the more they pray, the more stars they will get from God. You can't twist God's arm and beg Him to answer your prayers.
Jesus told us to pray laborers to go across people's path. Matt 9:38 : "pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." God loves the people that you're praying for more that you love them, prayer is not an opportunity for you to beg God and get His compassion. Prayer is not the issue, but it's your relationship with God that's the issue. Prayer is communing, talking to God.
When praying for your husband, don't release all the negative thins about him, don't speak the problem. Don't give all the details of the doctor's report and how bad things are - a lot of unbelieve.
Jesus cursed the figtree (spoken to it) commanded it to die, in a day it was visible to the disciples that the tree had died - Jesus never touched, nothing in the physical realm - just spoken words. Jesus walked on the earth as a man by faith on the Word of God, and the things that He did, we also can do : John 14;12 : "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works that these he will do, because I go to My Father." This is telling us how we can see the exact same results that Jesus had. Prayer is to know God and to have a relationship with God. We have the same faith, the faith of Jesus. Let the words paint a picture on the inside of you, dreaming it, expecting it. Faith is voice activated.
Mark 11:22-25 : "Have faith in God. For assuredly I say to you whoever says to this mountain (speak to your problem and not about it), Be removed and be cast into the see, and does not doubt in his heart (inner man), but believes that those things he says will be done, he wil have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them."
Prov. 18:21 : "death and life are in the power of the tongue" - words are important. You have to speak faith filled words, speak to your problems. Let the Holy Spirt help you to understand this, - contrary to what we were taught. Speak to your problem/mountain and command that problem to be gone. Talk to your problem about God. It is hidden in Mark 11:23, it shows you to use the God-given authority and you are not asking God, not God please get rid of my problem but instead you know who you are and what God has done and then you take your authority and you speak to your problem. If sickness, overeating, cancer is your problem, you just say 'cancer, in the Name of Jesus I use the power in this tongue to curse you and command you to die, every cell of this cancer to die right now'. If you have a fungus/infection/virus, all of these are created by words, living things.
Hebr. 11:3 : "By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible." So, God spoke the worlds into existence = His words created everything!. Words creates virusses/infections/etc. anything that is a lie, it was created by word s and it will respond to words - He told us to speak to those things. Cancer, in the Name of Jesus, I curse you cancercells, I command you to die in the Name of Jesus. I curse this infection and speak death to it and I speak to my body that it is able to repair and overcome these things. You don't understand the power of your words, don't talk about all the negative things that we are saying over ourselves i.e. the doctor said I'm going to die = so you just speak forth all of your doubt and unbelieve not understanding the power of your words.
The truth of what the doctor says, without the balance of God's Word is nothing but a lie. Not saying that you're not hurting/ doctor hasn't said you're going to die but it may be true but it is not the truth if if violates the Word of God.
The Word of God says in Psalm 118:17 : "I shall not die, but live", and declare the words of the Lord. 3 John 1:2 : "I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in good health, just as your soul prospers." 1 Peter 2:24 : "... by His stripes you were healed."
The Word says these things so you must make sure that you don't speak forth what somebody else said to you / heard without balancing it by the Word of God. It is appropriate that the doctor said I'm going to die but Your Word says in Psalm 118:17 : "I shall not die, but live", and that I'm healed of all my diseases and sicknesses. Psalm 103:2-3 : "Bless the Lord O my soul, and forget not all His benefits; Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases."
You must make sure that everything that was said to you - that you think - take it by the Word of God. Not denying that there are physical problems but denying that that's all there is - surround it by what the Word of God says.
Do you understand what it means when you pray "in the Name of Jesus"? People will take Old Testament prayers and add "in the Name of Jesus" at the end, that's not right
Because of what Jesus did, because He has reconsiled me with God - Father, I receive this because of what Jesus did - that's what you should say.
Why hasn't God healed me, I fast, I pray, I pay my tithe, I go to church, I'm living a holy life, I'm doing eveything I can? It actually says why God hasn't healed you = because you are not pointing to what Jesus did for you, you're pointing to what you have been doing for Jesus and you are expecting it, God is going to move in my life because of all of what you have done. There isn't any anger in God towards us because of the sacrifice of Jesus, 2 Corinthians 5:19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
Old Testament prayers void what Jesus has done and you can't just tag "in the Name of Jesus" in at the end. God was angry/wrathful described in "Exodus 32:7 And the Lord said to Moses, "Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves.
8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, 'This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!' "
9 And the Lord said to Moses, "I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people!
10 Now therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation."
11 Then Moses pleaded with the Lord his God, and said: "Lord, why does Your wrath burn hot against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
12 Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, 'He brought them out to harm them, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth'? Turn from Your fierce wrath, and relent from this harm to Your people.
13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swore by Your own self, and said to them, 'I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven; and all this land that I have spoken of I give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.' "
14 So the Lord relented from the harm which He said He would do to His people."
God has His wrath satifsfied through the Lord Jesus. All His wrath came upon Jesus, "John 12:32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself." God is not angry with you as New Testament believer.
The promise in "Isaiah 54:9 "For this is like the waters of Noah to Me; For as I have sworn That the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, So have I sworn That I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.
10 For the mountains shall depart And the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed," Says the Lord, who has mercy on you."
God extended His mercy even towards the non-believers today, the wrath will follow in the end if they continue to reject Jesus. "1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,"
